What is Card Counting and why does it work?
Card Counting is a simple strategy players use to track the remaining cards in the shoe, helping them determine when the odds are in their favour.
High cards (10s, picture cards and aces) are generally more favourable to the player. Here's why:
- High cards increase the likelihood of hitting a natural blackjack (an Ace and a 10-value card)
- High cards make it more likely for the dealer to bust, especially when their upcard is low. This is because the dealer is forced to hit until they reach at least 17
- A higher proportion of high cards gives the player a significant advantage when doubling down
